Ok this is a bit long. But I had to get it out!
It's been really really windy for two days now. I Actually had the starts of a heart attack going when the tornado siren went off this afternoon...oh yeah! It is located just behind the fence behind the house. The noise itself will cause a sane person to run towards insanity!!!! So it goes off and I do a quick plan in my head on how I am going to get two kids, 4 dogs, 2 cats, and hamsters all in the bathroom at the same time. Well as luck has it, the city was just testing their alarms. But I am adventurous (on the verge of insane!), we were bored so I thought it would be great fun to do a little test run to see just what it would take to get my loved ones and their pets to safety. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. It was an adventure for sure.
So I decide the bathroom downstairs (you know the one that is just a tad bit larger than those on an airplane!!!)is the place....I am thinking it's inside, no windows, this has got to be the best place there is right??? In case of tornado....Remember, we are testing the plan!!
So I open the backdoor to get the 3 outside dogs in.....Easy Right??? No, not easy at all. I put the mastif in and all is good. Matilda is really such a big goofy sweetheart. She lays down immediately and I realize hmmmmm well that doesn't leave much space. But I am determined to win this battle. Next in line, is the English Bulldog. I ended up chasing her around the table in the living room, through the kitchen, around the island and back to the living room and got no where near getting her in the bathroom.....in the meantime the 1 year old has let the Mastif out of the bathroom. So my plan is going no where fast. So I thought hmmmm maybe if I start with the smallest and work my way up it will work. So in go the hamsters, snoodle the poodle, and the cats......Yippee!!! I am making progress!!!!
Ummmm did someone say Hamsters and cats in the same little tiny airplane size bathroom???? Oh yes, suddenly there is a crash and hissing and barking and complete mayhem in the bathroom. I open the door and all the animals come rushing out at me....yes even the hamsters. And well it was like the old farmer in the dell song phsyco style come to life. The grandma chases the dog, the dog chases the cat, the cat chases the other cat, the other cat chases the hamsters and the two year girl that I swear has the loudest set of crying pipes in the world is screaming at the top of her lungs that someone is going to die.... I am trying to quiet her by screaming back it's ok I'll get them....I won't let them die...as i am crawling under the table to catch the hamster.
The crying is getting louder (who would believe that it possibly could?)! I crawl out from under the table and go to her....humans are more important....Right??? I find her at the doorway of the bathroom hanging on to the leg of her brother who is sitting (sort of?) in the toilet splashing and laughing and flushing and well just having a good ol time. Of course, Sissy is saving his life by hanging on to his leg...right??
So now my safety plan has turned into a recovery and clean up plan. I remove baby boy from the toilet, I give fluids (juice) to the 2 year old girl who is slowly recovering from her total melt down, I find the hamsters and place them in their pink palace. And now it's time to clean up all the water.
I grab towels and head to this tiny little-not much bigger than an airplane bathroom to mop up the water. While I'm down on all fours wiping behind the throne I feel some feet on my legs and look back to see matilda (the mastif) making herself at home on my feet. I am in the process of turning around and getting her off my feet when in walks the english bulldog and wouldn't you know he finds himself a spot on the other side of the throne. Yes indeed, one by one the animals and the little humans join me in this little tiny spot in the house. I wiggle my way around because you know there is not much space left in this room. I pick up 2 year old baby girl who is giggling at our adventure now, and then I pick up little boy baby and I sit down on the throne and take a minute to reflect on what I just learned. Suddenly, 2 year old baby girl laughs and says "Again Grannie Again" which is what she says when she wants me to restart a movie. SIGH!!
Update: One hour and 10 minutes later. Grandma is found snuggled warmly on the couch with boy and girl babies, dogs are back outside, cats are sleeping in the corner, hamsters are buried under in their palace just in time for Parent Number 1- Mom to walk in the door.
"How was your day?" she asks
"Same as usual" I calmly reply
There are just some things a parent never needs to know....Right???
